BUSINESS FRENCH COURSE

For Corporates and Adults

Agape School of Education’s Business French Course is for all those who, in initial training or continuing training, seek to move, change, optimize their insertion in a French professional environment. At Agape School of Education (ASOE), we assess business communication skills common to all current work situations. Our exam topics have been specifically adapted to your working environment and correspond to the levels prescribed by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). Our main target is to allow non-francophone to enhance their French language skills in the world of work.

This course outline is based on more than 15 years of experience teaching French to the non-French speaking staff. Through our observations of the many students, we have been constantly adapting our teaching materials. You will find below the latest version of our teaching approach. Our program is divided into clusters and within each cluster there are 3 levels:

• Basic user or novice – known as A (Low level) based on our ALFIE PROGRAM (Agape Learning French Intelligently)
• Independent user – known as B (Mid level)
• Proficient user – known as C (Higher level)

Our students are encouraged to sit for the DELF International Diploma.

For the beginner level of our basic user cluster we have created our own teaching materials. The purpose is to allow the student to have a strong foundation in grammar and phonetics. As you go through the course outline you will notice that there are lots of revisions. We did it purposely to allow the students who are frequently absent to catch-up with the mainstream class. We indeed understand that due to their job assignments / constraints the students miss a few classes.

For the students who took French previous years, we propose our in-house course called “Alfie French Expresso” which is 100% conversational….no speaking English! In addition, the student has to choose a French-speaking partner mainly online to team-up for practice outside of the class based on Agape School’s guidance.

BASIC USER

Breakthrough – Elementary

Our BASIC USER course is designed for candidates seeking initial employment opportunities or promotion within a French-speaking work environment.

In this cluster we assess the communication skills needed for all aspects of professional life today. Our tests or graded examination topics are based on the world of work.

The student can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type and introduce him/herself and others and also ask and answer questions about personal details such as where he/she lives, people he/she knows and things he/she has. He/She sould be able to interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.

The student at this level can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment). He/She can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar and routine matters. The student can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas of immediate need.

The student can expect to reach the CEFRL level after 80 to 200 cumulative hours of instruction.

INFEPENDENT USER

Intermediate – Upper Intermediate

At this level, the student can understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. He/she can deal with most situations likely to arise while travelling in an area where the language is spoken and can produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest or describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

The student can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics, including technical discussions in his/her field of specialization and interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity that makes regular interaction with native speakers quite possible without strain for either party. He/She is also expected to produce clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue giving the advantages and disadvantages of various options.

The student can expect to reach the CEFRL level after 360 to 650 cumulative hours of instruction.

PROFICIENT USER

Operational – Proficiency

At this level, the student can understand a wide range of demanding, longer clauses, and recognize implicit meaning. He/She must be able to express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions and use language flexibly and effectively for social, academic and professional purposes. His/her production must be clear, well-structured, detailed on complex subjects, showing his/her control use of organizational patterns, connectors and cohesive devices.

The student can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read and be able to summarize information from different spoken and written sources, reconstructing arguments and accounts in a coherent presentation.
The student should be able to express him/herself spontaneously, very fluently and precisely, differentiating finer shades of meaning even in the most complex situations.

The student can expect to reach the CEFRL level after 810 to 1200 cumulative hours of instruction.
